I love photographing christenings – a bit less time-pressure than at a wedding, and most of the subjects aren’t nervous, or are too young to even care! So what’s better than photographing one baby being christened? Twins!
Here are some favourite photographs from this lovely christening at St Mary’s Oatlands with a reception at Oatlands Park Hotel in Surrey, from back in October. The twins were joined by their big brother who was also the centre of attention during the day – such a sweet, cheeky chappy!
Once everyone was at the church (there was another christening happening and one other also scheduled, cancelled due to illness unfortunately) I took up my position to focus on ‘my’ family. As mentioned, covering christenings are great as everyone just ignores you and concentrates on the vicar and the babies. After the anointing and lighting of the christening candles, we all made our way to the back of the church around the font – I’d imagine cold water over the head must be a bit of a shock, but both babies were brilliant!
After the service we all made the short journey to Oatlands Park. Mum had made a fantastic effort with a stunning cake for the twins, and a dedicated soft ball play area for all the little ones to play in – great fun for me to photograph, although I did spend quite a bit of time returning errant balls back to the ball pit!
Once food had been served, it was Dad’s time to say a few words – which was all he was allowed, as you’ll see someone I think got a bit fed up of the speech!
