I love photographing christenings – they’re really happy occasions and there aren’t any nerves (as there sometimes are at weddings) as the star of the show doesn’t really know what’s coming up and everyone’s relaxed and smiley – even the celebrant!
Here are some of my favourite images from little April’s christening on a lovely sunny Sunday back in the summer. It’s always great to meet up with past clients who refer me on. I’d photographed April’s Aunty’s wedding a few years ago so it was lovely to see Rachel and Mark and all their family again at St John The Evenagelist, Guildford.
The family were joined by a few others (three I think) in a joint service run by a lovely, fun vicar.
Once everyone had said Hi to April and her parents, it was time for the service to start. The church always separate the families which does make documenting the service slightly easier! Unlike weddings, for the start of the service everyone is in the pews so it’s a great time to photograph candids of the family all together.
For the actual christening, all three families were called up to the font together and christened in turn – a slight comedy moment when April was handed back to Rachel rather than her mum – quickly rectified to a few chuckles!
After the service and a few quick groups by the font, everyone made their way back to the house for a lovely garden tea party in the beautiful sunshine. All the kids had a great time playing in the play area and with bubbles and having their faces painted – great for me to photograph, while all the adults enjoyed some refreshments in the sun!
I had great fun photographing lovely candid moments – a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Congratulations to April and her parents – here are some of my favourite photographs from the day.
